What should I anticipate on the day of my pet's euthanasia?
When the vet arrives, they will first discuss with you the procedure and what to expect. You will be given the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and decide if you would like to be present with your pet throughout the procedure.
When you are ready, the vet will administer a sedative injection under the skin in much the same way a vaccination is administered. This is given to alleviate any pain or suffering, and to allow for a painless and peaceful experience for the pet.
Once the pet is completely relaxed under sedation, the vet will usually place an intravenous catheter into a vein in the leg. The euthanasia injection is generally administered via the catheter.
The euthanasia injection is essentially a general anaesthetic. It is painless and works quickly. Once administered, the pet will fall into an even deeper sleep and pass away peacefully whilst under the anesthesia.
Our family-friendly passionate veterinarians, in-home support, flexible hours and practical advice provide the best care for your pet.
